If the salary was the same, what job would you be doing right now and why?
If the salary was the same, the job would be a lawyer.
One thing I like to do is meet people and listen to their stories. I like hearing where they are from, the nature of their childhood, accomplishments, and issues. If they reveal the issues, then I would give guidance to help resolve them.
For me, it goes to being a faithful steward over another man’s livelihood. In my case, I think of what John Adams wrote about James Otis’s arguments regarding the Writs of Assistance and John Adams’s own defense of the British soldiers in the colonial era before independence. They both provided legal advocacy at critical stages in colonial history.
If I were to pursue the dream of being an attorney, I’d have to go back to school to get the degree and be admitted to the bar. But there’s a chance that I may not end up in the field of law that initially interested me. Nonetheless, there is still a desire to fulfill that part of advocacy and to do the necessary work of people-facing services, research, and personal responsibility that goes with it.
