Did you know? Michael Jordan played all 82 games in his final NBA season with the Washington Wizards. At ages 39 and 40, he still averaged 20 points per game.

“Load management” is routinely used to justify a player’s absence for a game or two during the course of a long, arduous season. But that was not the case for the GOAT. He showed up for every game.

Greatness does not always have to look dominant. Sometimes, greatness is consistency and reliability: being available and performing even when no one expects you to be at your best.

There are seasons when success looks less like dominating and more like continuing to show up.

The fairy-tale ending did not happen in Washington like it did in Chicago. The Wizards missed the playoffs. Nonetheless, Jordan suited up for all 82 games and averaged 20 points per game while competing against players considerably younger than him.

    That is excellence.

MJ Mondays is my weekly look at why Michael Jordan is still the GOAT, along with a few lessons we can take from his career about competing, winning, and getting better.

A new post goes up every Monday.

The more you think about it, the more that you see that Michael Jordan represents victory, accomplishment, and excellence. As evidenced by the reel in the link above, the public perception by celebrities, people who are at the top of their respective, of Michael Jordan shows that His Airness is simply the best.

Records are indeed meant to be broken, but MJ’s record of excellence, notably 6 championships and 6 Finals MVPs in 6 Finals appearances, may not be touched for a long time.

I just found out that one week ago (January 8th) was the 31st anniversary of this accomplishment. This was another milestone to an excellent career.
