MJ Mondays – No. 172

LeBron is a great player and has had a successful career in basketball but in terms of accolades and poise on the court, Michael Jordan is way ahead.

A Reddit user compiled a list of LeBron fans who watch Michael Jordan highlights and become converted into Michael Jordan/GOAT fans. This is really cool.
Fandom is typically subjective, but I don’t understand how you can NOT say that MJ is the greatest. Look at his achievements. The most impressive is that he bookended his first retirement with 2 different 3-peats. I don’t know how that gets topped.
Records are meant to be broken but I haven’t not seen that happen yet when it comes to professional basketball.
This list pretty good. Check it out at the link above. I’m going through them myself. It is really entertaining.
Let me know what you think.

Michael Jordan on collaboration What do you think since LeBron joined the Philadelphia 76ers last week?

In your opinion, what does a player need to do in order to surpass Michael Jordan?
This is not the typical post that lauds Michael Jordan for his accomplishments in basketball and impact in the culture.
I got this question from the NBATalk subreddit. But it created the need for a metric, an ideal, for a player to surpass in order to be considered greater than MJ.
- 6-0 in the Finals
- 6x Finals MVP
- 5x NBA MVP
- 1 DPOY
- Rookie of the Year
- 2x Gold Medalist
- College Champion
- etc.
To date, no player in the author’s mind. has come close. Bill Russell has the closest body of work that could compare in magnitude with his 11 championships as a player and coach. However his impact is not as great in the culture as Michael Jordan. (See the Nike subsidiary, Jordan brand, and his other endorsements.)
What do you think someone needs to do in order to surpass MJ?

This long-form explanation on why you didn’t see MJ23 in any video games from the mid-90s until the early Teens with the release of NBA2K11.
(I can’t embed because there’s some sort of universal block on viewing YouTubes outside the website.)
That video is definitely worth your time if you have 4 to 5 minutes to spare.
