  • Umi Says – Cover

I love the original by Mos Def ever since I first heard it in a Air Jordan commercial when I was in high school.  To be honest I think this is the first cover of Umi Says that I have ever heard.  The live band touch also gives it an organic feel.

Check it out.  (Watch for some language.)

What’s a secret skill or ability you have or wish you had?

I wish I could play the piano OR be skilled in a marital art.

Music exercises the brain and to be adept at it indicates a highly developed one.

For the second part I want to be physically adept to the point where I could defend myself if necessary.

What is your favorite type of weather?

    Fav type of weather:

    • 65-75 degrees F
    • Little to no breeze
    • Sunny – very few clouds in the sky
    • A little bit of humidity

That’s the best. You can go out for a glass of lemonade and chill.

What do you wish you could do more every day?

I wish I could get more sleep, i.e., at minimum 6 hours per day. I normally wake up early to go to the gym (almost every day). I go to sleep late. It’s Night Owl/Early Bird mixture. (There’s some word for it.).

I’ll add this as one of my new quarter resolution on April 1st.

  • Buckets in 1984

This is a dope video featuring all the made baskets during the 1984 NBA All Star Game and set to a decent soundtrack.  Give it a watch when you have time.

Who was your most influential teacher? Why?

My most influential teacher was my AP Calculus teacher from high school, Mr. Binghi.  I had been going through a lot of turmoil at home and school was sort of a welcome refuge in my life.

He had a peculiar way of teaching.  It was almost frenetic but it showed his passion and energy for the topic at hand.  I was a willing student.  He made Calculus enjoyable to learn.

That was his role as a teacher but I’ll never forget his mantra that he taught us quite often.

“It’s not what happens to you in life that matters.  It’s what you do about it.”

It taught me that bad things happen to you in life but you dont have to be a victim.  You can overcome and still suceed in spite of the circumstances.  It really helped me through the things that we happening at home.  Might have been divinely orchestrated.    Nonetheless, I’m thankful for his presence in my life.

What tattoo do you want and where would you put it?

I don’t really want any tattoos. I am a dark-skinned man so any tattoo that I get wouldn’t be visible.

There was once upon a time when I was infatuated with tattoos. I want to get a image of a shotgun tattooed on my forearm. (Don’t ask me why.)

Another thing with a tattoo is that it’s permanent. The image that I would get would need to have some permanent significance. But the issue is that I’m too fickle, so that an idea that I’ve long cherished would be discarded over time. It’s not a good long term investment.

You’re going on a cross-country trip. Airplane, train, bus, car, or bike?

So this depends on where the destination is. If I’m going to a place that I’ve never been before, I’m taking a plane more than likely. I have to get there as quick as possible.

With that said, I have wanted to drive out to the west coast from New York City. A friend of mine did it a couple of years ago. He said it took him 3 days total. (I think he was driving with another friend.). That seems so cool.
